Whispers in the restroom, hiding period products from male colleagues, or even feeling embarrassed and suffering in silence – these are all realities that women face at work during their time of the month, especially when there are no period essentials available.

Many professional women are expected to manage domestic and family duties while meeting the expectations of their job, which is often located far from home, sometimes with long, demanding hours, making it that much more stressful during their period. These factors combine to enable a modern-day inequality that has major effects on societies and economies – creating a new challenge for modern workplaces.

Nowadays, inclusivity is not just a buzzword; it’s a necessity. And it applies directly to menstrual health. Despite being a normal part of life for millions of working women in Kenya and countless more globally, periods are still taboo in business settings. And the results cut both ways – women miss out on professional advancement, satisfaction, and earnings, while employers risk losing productivity and profit.

According to a survey done by CIPD, out of a total of 2000 women, two-thirds (69%) reported a negative experience at work because of their menstrual symptoms; other studies have shown that professional women miss at least 1.5 hours every month to manage their period.

On the contrary, female employees who do have access to workplace menstrual health support report greater comfort and performance at work and stronger loyalty to their employer, while employers experience greater outputs, retention rates, and profitability. Additionally, period inclusivity also advances key corporate responsibility objectives such as gender equality and women’s empowerment.

We at Mosaic Health believe that period care should be more accessible and more inclusive, especially in the work environment. We developed Pamp’her Period Packs to help ensure that professional women never have to worry about missing work or underperforming during their time of the month, whether they are at the office, in the field, or on the move.

Employers can create a more encouraging and welcoming atmosphere for everyone who menstruates by offering discreet and practical period care like Pamp’her Period Packs. Resolving period inclusivity would make workplaces healthier, happier, more productive, and more equitable for everyone.
